The lack of debate over Arkansas’ proposed Stand Your Ground bill, a controversial bill that has swept most of the nation, in the state senate finally boiled over and led Senator Stephanie Flowers to passionately remind her fellow colleagues that her son and other African American children deserve a chance to live. As noted in many reports since the rise of Stand Your Ground took root, African Americans have been disproportionately gunned down by others with no consequence for their actions despite often times the victims being unarmed.

It is also worth noting that on the Arkansas Judiciary Committee, while Senator Flowers is the Vice-Chair, she is also the only woman and only African American present. Watch her spirited declaration in defense of African American lives.
