• Only 3 out of the 17 HBCU are women
• 9 out of the 17 earned their HBCU degree in the state they currently serve as Congressperson.
• 8 out of the 17 earned their advanced degree from an HBCU.
• 15 different HBCUs are represented among the 17 Congressional HBCU Caucus.

Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH) graduated with a B.A. from Central State University.

Congressman Sanford Bishop (GA) graduated from Morehouse College in 1968.

Congresswoman Corrine Brown (FL) is a graduate of Florida A&M University.

Congressman G.K. Butterfield (NC) graduated from college and law school at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina.

Congressman Emmanuel Cleaver (MO) received his bachelor’s degree from Prairie View A&M.

Congressman James Clyburn (SC) helped organize many civil rights marches and demonstrations as a student leader at South Carolina State College.

Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD) obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Howard University, serving as Student Government President and graduating Phi Beta Kappa.

Congressman Danny Davis (IL) earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arkansas A.M. & N. College and Masters degrees from Chicago State University.

Congressman Al Green (TX) attended Florida A&M University, Howard University, and the Tuskegee Institute. Before receiving an undergraduate degree, he enrolled in the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1973.

Congressman Alcee Hastings (FL) graduated from Fisk University in 1958. He earned his law degree from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

Congressman Hank Johnson (GA) he is a graduate of  the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.

Congressman John Lewis (GA) holds a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy from Fisk University, and he is a graduate of the American Baptist Theological Seminary, both in Nashville, Tennessee.

Congressman Gregory Meeks (NY) earned his law degree from Howard University.

Congressman Cedric Hammond (LA) earned his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA.

Congressman David Scott (GA) received several academic scholarships and attended Florida A&M University where he earned his BA degree and graduated with honors in 1967.

Congressman Bennie Thompson (MS) earned a Bachelor of Science from Tougaloo College and a Master of Science from Jackson State University.

Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL) earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Fisk University in 1963.
